The D-day for the football match between Sudan and Nigeria is almost here.The match takes place on October 11.This is a match Nigeria is condemned to win.The defending champions are on a brink of not defending their trophy again for the second time.In South Africa 1996, the Nigerian team which defeated the Zambian national team 2-1 in the final of Tunisia '94 failed to come to South Africa. The reason was political. The late maximum ruler, General Sani Abacha ordered the team not to participate in the tournament as relationship between the two countries became frosty.The imminent absence facing the team now is self inflicted.
The Super Eagles can win in Khartoum next Saturday if everyone concerned worked together.If Nigeria wins and Congo beats South Africa in Pointe Noire, we will tie with them on 4 points.This is more likely to be the results because I don't see South Africa beating Congo at home. I am predicting as follows: Sudan Vs Nigeria might end 1:3.Congo Vs SA might end 2:1. The next games four days later might end, Nigeria Vs Sudan: 3:0 and South Africa : Congo : 2:0.The result will mean Nigeria will have 7 points,South Africa 7 points,Congo 9 points. However any draw in the matches between SA and Congo will put Nigeria clearly in 2nd place ahead of SA.
The main decider will now be the remaining two matches for each team.If Nigeria fails to get two wins in the next two games, they should forget about qualification for AFCON 2015.The results in those matches will determine my predictions for final round of games.However, if Nigeria gets those wins, they are likely to top the group.You ask me how?
