AMNESTY FOR BOKO HARAM: A TIMID APPROACH TO CURB INSURGENCE

In the last 3 years the faceless and criminal group called Boko Haram ( Western Education is Sin) has unleashed a deadly attack on Nigerians in the Northern part of the country.They killed and maimed innocent citizens by bombing and use of guns.They attack churches and later mosques leaving behind tales of sorrows, blood and tears.They are relentless in these attacks and vowed to continue their dastardly acts.Public building such as police stations and press offices were not spared.In the last one year alone they must have destroyed properties worth N10b.Lives lost cannot be less than one thousand.

Government appears helpless to bring and end to various attacks of Boko Haram.Foreigners became targets  of the criminal group.Government set up Joint task force to rescue the nation but the couldn't contain them.The Norther leaders and elites looked on as the nation became Iraq where daily bombing was the order of the day.They continue to issue daily threats to establish the fact that they are well grounded with rock solid backers.

Despite the fact that the Lion's share of our budget goes to security, GEJ went ahead to set up a committee to digest the granting of amnesty to a wicked group that has been challenging our collective existence.Clearly the group did a good research on the type of government we have.They knew it's a government that lack legitimacy and couldn't redeem itself by embarking on popular projects and missions to salvage the nation.The government is too afraid not to offend anyone or rock the boat.The government forget that when you are trying not to offend one,you will end up offending all.In setting up a committee to consider granting of amnesty to Boko Haram,it has shown clearly that at fighting terrorism we are poorly equipped and our intelligence gathering is zero; most of the money appropriated from our budget for security were bogus and need to be probed.Amnesty is sought by a people or group from the state when they realized that their actions are condemnable and ready to turn a new leaf.Amnesty is not for unrepentant murderers  who left many without their loved ones and turned living to hell.

I will not be surprised when kidnappers, arm robbers,pension thieves, pipeline vandals, fraudsters,rapists and the alike begin to ask for amnesty.
