It was the case of using a sledge
hammer to kill a fly when a petty thief, Kelvin n Ighodalo was sentenced last
week to to 45 years in prison for stealing a mobile phone belonging to Osun
State governor, Rauf Aregbesola .So many count charges were brought against the
hapless thief before he accumulated 45 long years in the gulag.
The worth of the phone will be in
the range of N50,000. Meanwhile a pension thief
who stole N20b belonging to those who had suffered for this country was
patted on the back and bagged few months in prison or an option of N750,000
fine.
There is no justice in the nation
and we continue to breed heavy national treasury looters by unwittingly creating
two legal systems where stealing has grades or levels. If steal worthless things
you are doomed; if you carry all the national cakes available, you are smart
and smart people must not go to jail. We need them as national undertakers. No
wonder corruption continues to feed on the largest part of our resources. It ‘s
very sickening.
