MANCINI GETS THE BOOT AT CITY

The charismatic coach, Roberto Mancini of Manchester City has been removed after 6 years in the saddle. The decision of the club to sack him is not unconnected with recent dip in form of the club. The club, the reigning EPL didn’t just crash out of the champions league for the second consecutive times but didn’t get to win a match this year and came last in the group. City lost current EPL title to United when there was 6 matches to play in the league as opposed to last second win in 2011/2012 season. All hope was not lost for at least a trophy display at Etihad stadium when City fought its way to the this year FA Cup final at Wembley against Relegated bound Wigan Athletic. The match exposed lack of creative options and zeal which marked the performance of City throughout the season. It was no surprise that Wigan won the match as they were more of the enterprising side. Everyone agreed that Wigan won the match deservedly against a City side that beat United at Old Trafford for two consecutive seasons.
Is the sack justified or fair? Mancini did a great job at City and I admire his courage and achievement having met City when they were struggling. The high point of his progress was when in he won the FA Cup in 2011.He gave the club hope that more will come in days ahead. Surely more came in 2011/2012 season when he worked hard for deserved victory over United a clinched the EPL trophy from its grip in an enthralling manner. For the first time in EPL history, a winner was decided by goal difference. Mancini is a very good coach but, the club management has seen new glories and they want something more or at least a repeat performance. So many things happened it the team like coach-player crises like the one that sent Mario Balotelli out of Etihad Stadium to San Siro.
In the last few weeks towards the end of the current season, so many speculations were in the media about Mancini replacement and he was not oblivious of this fact. It was rumoured that Coach Peliagrini of Malaga was about to hired for City job even though the coach denied reaching any agreement with City management.
Mancini may be on his way to France, we can only wish him well in his future endeavours.
