Twenty years after the first post apartheid election in South Africa, the African National Congress won again at the poll to return the party to government. The ANC won massively by 63% to signify the confidence South Africans have in the party. The remaining vote casts of 37% is shared between other political parties chiefly, Democratic Alliance,Economic Freedom Fighters among others. The election victory will mark the 4th time ANC we win the general election after Mandela (one term),Mbeki. (2 terms) with Jacob's first 5 years term.
The South African election was the first without Dr Nelson Mandela sinc e the end of white minority rule in 1994.Madiba,as Dr. Nelson Mandela was popular called died in December 5,2013 at the age of 95 years.Mandela left a legacy that was difficult to erase as a freedom fighter which cost him 27 years in prison and good governance.
President Jacob Zuma was return to office based on the result at the polls but there are many problems trailing his government. He had been accused of corruption and grandiose living. He was accused not long ago of lavish spending on furnishing his home spending millions of Rands. The mass of the people are unemployed as most of the economic powers in South Africa are still with white minority.
The economy of South Africa shrinked under Zuma's first 5 -year term. There were strikes from mine workers and issue of safety of miners became a serious problem.Mining is a major source of national income for South Africa. One hope that having received a baton for anothe 5-years,he will need to address these issues urgently.
