The insurgency in the North Eastern part of Nigeria has done us some good despite the unabated blood letting.Boko-Haram is the devilish name of a group that has held the jugular of not only the Northern Part of Nigeria but the entire country. There are daily flow of terror, anguish and hopelessness for living victims and affected families.I believe the nation has gained from this experience even though in negative terms for now. However,we can turn the experience to a positive one as a people.
We have seen that serious terrorist attacks can be politicized by political parties when it has not been proven that bomb blast can differentiate between its targets and victims. We lack unity of purpose as a nation and just because of political affiliations and intended gains we left Boko-Haram to fester and to gradually decimate us all.
We have gained a knowledge that our security awareness is zero.We saw a strange man parking a car and taking off without asking questions or raising alarms for others to leave the scene. The case in point is second Nyanyan attack in two weeks almost at same spot like previous. Shouldn't that place still be cordoned off?
We have gained a point that in terms of leadership needed in a war situation, our commanders can be helpless. It give our leaders pleasure to visit attack scenes and hospitals than to get cracking to stop future occurrence.
We have discovered that despite ministry of defence consuming huge part of our yearly budget we cannot buy superior arms that will quell insurgency in battle front. The boldness of Boko-Haram is in their fire power. The criminals are well motivated. The devilish group have been brainwashed to die for their meaningless cause but why can't we do same for our security agencies?
Nigerians are now clear about how poorly we keep important information especially in crisis situation .Over 200 teenage girls were abducted in their school and neither the school authority nor government could give accurate numbers of the girls abducted in Chibok, Borno state. At a point the military said they rescued all the girls were the parents said some pf the girls escaped on their own.
We have it now on authority by the help of Boko Haram that Nigeria has no border. There are countless entry points into the country .We don't have any means of identification of Nigerians and Non-Nigerians, Mention any tribe or citizen, they are in Nigeria.
Nigerians know better that we can have enemies within during terrorist attacks on the nation and yet nobody can do anything about it. The president said he had Boko-Haram in his cabinet but he couldn't do anything about it. A soldier once confessed that among them were Boko - Haram members.
We as citizens of Nigerians are aware that even if we are faced with war, our commanders can dance all manner of dance at campaign rally. While Abuja was on siege and our girls were been abducted,GEJ was busy dancing Asonto at Kano rally for election. Insurgency can be danced away. This is a new theory in combating terrorism.
We have gained a point by understanding the weak point of Boko Haram that they are a worthless group who love to take advantage of the weak especially children,They have exposed their weakness by continual bombing and killing of innocent citizens.
In conclusion, the Boko Haram experience
has taught us that the best form of state of emergency is total state of emergency. We have emergency yet the criminal group still walk around the state under emergency rules to rain havoc.
