ABYSMAL PERFORMANCE OF NIGERIA IN MOROCCO 2015 QUALIFIER

Nigeria 2-3 Congo was the scoreline after 90 minutes in Calabar, Nigeria when the Super Eagles hosted Congo on September 6.The match was AFCON 2015 qualifier. The Eagles were the champions after winning the 2013 edition in South Africa. The match saw the Nigerian team displaying below  average performance after wobbling results in Brazil 2014.In almost three decades,Nigeria have not lost at home in a Nations cup qualifier. The Steven Keshi boys played as if  they have won the world cup and every team should worship them. The Congolese knew what they have come to do and showed preparedness and commitment. To cap it all,Nigeria made a silly challenge in the eighteen yard box resulting in a penalty kick. The tackle was unnecessary and I don't think they did this even at world cup some weeks ago.Congo took control of the match while Nigeria struggled through out the match.

The second match on September 10 against South Africa was not different much from their last match. The match ended 0-0.Nigeria failed to get a win in two matches and remained in third position behind Congo and South Africa. The descent of the national team began before the world cup in Brazil some weeks ago.The friendly matches before the tournament exposed Eagles lack of coordination in the mid field and upfront.Mikel Obi suddenly has become so complacent that you see him strolling on the pitch. The only outstanding member of the team after Goalkeeper,Vincent Iyeama was Ogenyi Onazi. The absence of Onazi showed in the second round match against France where they lost 2-0 after he was injured due to a  vicious tackle.

The poor performance of the team and needless conflicts in Nigeria Football Federation compounded the woes of Nigerian football. In the last 6 weeks, the country has been under FIFA 's hammer and searchlight for violating rules of the footballing body continuously. There so much rancour in NFF that you will wonder whether the local football body is an oil rig.

To be concluded
