Just as I was writing this article on police and the bad image of mounting road blocks all over the place, Inspector General of police, Suleiman Abba had confirmed the illegality of this action. The IG said the ban on all road blocks under whatever name is tantamount to disobeying the order of the hierarchy and severe penalty awaits anyone caught. Consequently he had ordered immediate removal of such road blocks or check points.
I hope those junior officers will listen to good reason and unambiguous instruction from the police authority. We hope to begin to see changes in next few days.
