MESSI-NG UP THE RECORDS 2

The award for best player in FIFA World Cup in Brazil 2014 was rightly given to Messi. He carried Argentina on his back through the tournament. The final was won by Germany 1-0 not because Messi couldn't click but because Germany came with a complete team made up of players that were resolute to take the cup away.Germany closed the game in the mid field but unfortunately the Argentine coach couldn't proffer a solution. In a game of that magnitude, only a team with superior technical skill would win.Germany had bunches of good mid fielders who kept ball possession away from the Argentines.

Messi has won the FIFA World player of the year four times consecutively between 2009 and 2012.That is an impeccable world record on its own and the first of its kind.It is not all former FIFA world players that have won the award three times and not all that have won it three times consecutively.A lingering injury and personal challenges had denied him last year from winning the award the fifth time. The awesome performance of Christiano Ronaldo in World cup qualifiers for Portugal shot him up for the award at expense of Messi. In any case, the duo are in a world of their own when it comes to the round leather game.Their penchant for goals is legendary.

The number of years left for Messi before natural decline  is still long and the manner he plays suggests before that time comes, many more records would have been broken. He is a focused football player. He is professional both on and off the pitch.

The sayings of bookmakers that for Messi to be in the class of Pele and Maradona, he needs to win the world cup is a conjecture.Messi is player ahead of his time. All he knows is how to score goals. Now he has won FIFA player of the year more than those he met in the game for both club and country. The last time I checked he had scored 42 goal for Argentina. His tally for both club and country has come to 402.I don't know if these legends have scored this much combined. To compare the legends like Pele and Maradona with Messi will not be ideal. However, no one can deny the fact that by his sheer dribbling skills, knack for goals, team work and untiring shoulder for responsibilities, Lionel Messi has found his way into World football anal of history. He is indeed one of the football greatest players any day.
