MIMIKO RETURNS TO PDP

In our own 'brand' of politics, anything can happen. This is a wonderland. Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state has officially decamped to Peoples Democratic Party from Labour Party. This development is expected as there had been several rumours before now that the governor wanted to go back to his former party. He had denied all  rumours before now and it is clear that those rumours were true.

Some political  analysts  had long  concluded that it was just a matter of time before Mimiko joins his former party. The governor had been a staunch supporter of GEJ all along. During Nigeria's governors forum chairmanship brouhaha, Mimiko supported governor Jang of Plateau state who was the anointed of the power that be in Aso Rock. He was conspicuously present in various events of Jang's faction of governors forum. It is not unlikely that the governor was in the good books of the PDP during the second term election of the governor. This was confirmed in his return speech of  today. He said  that he is moving back to the party he left in disappointment some years ago due to what he has seen in GEJ. He believes in Mr. President and his transformation agenda which has improved the economy. He says the electoral reforms of this government is commendable. Truly there is no permanent enemy in politics and only in our clime that you see politicians switching political allegiance only when it suits them.I pity their followers. Goodness! I  have never considered one political party as being better than the other. In Nigeria, we have just one party and all members are politicians spread across different umbrellas.Ah! umbrella? I mean associations. There is no party in this country  with different  identities except party logos. Ideology? Please don't go there!

The governor is a national leader of Labour Party. So where do party members go from here? Is it not clear now that PDP has a stronger affinity to sweep the whole of South West during presidential election in 2015?

I commend the bigheartedness of the PDP for welcoming back those who strayed from the party. They don't like to complain about traitors because they could be the tailor the party needs tomorrow. The larger, the merrier. The 'soup' is enough to go round everybody. So when next someone leaves a party and starts calling his colleagues names, don't believe him.It could be a strategy to get more noticed next time and for bigger chunk of what every member wants.
