When governor of Rivers state flew to Ekiti on
April 25,2013 little did he know that his action will give birth to myriads of
problems for him. He was in Ekiti state for the final burial programme of Funmi
Olayinka, the deputy governor who died recently. Amaechi’s return journey became
issues as his private jet was reportedly grounded before it was allowed to fly
back to Portharcourt. NAMA says the airplane does not even have permission to
go beyond Portharcout and Ghana route.
Now we hear the Jet doesn’t belong to Amaechi nor
Rivers state but a private company who registered it in Nigeria. In the fleet
of the state, there is a particular plane which Nigeria Civil Aviation
Authority believes the price was inflated from $47m to $57 leaving $10m
unaccounted for. EFCC, Economic and Financial Crime Commission is set to wade
into the matter.
In all these, it shows this is an unbelievable
country and the consequence of falling out with power that be. Again it is
important to tread gently and avoid throwing stones when you live in a glass house.
We must mention that this era of jet acquisition when mass of our people are impoverished
daily without any hope must stop. People in authority always see themselves as
lords while the governed are slaves. This culture of impunity must stop.
