One of the revelations in the speech
of Sir Alex Ferguson yesterday as he ended his over 26 years in the saddle as Manchester
United Manager was the fact that Wayne Rooney had submitted a request for
transfer from Old Trafford. Rooney who was once the club talisman, scoring
neede goals at critical moments for the club saw his importance dwindle since
Robin Van Persie signed for the club at the beginning of 2012/2013 season. The
season has not been fulfilling for him especially when hed to seat on the bench
for important games. Rooney’s decision to leave must have been fueled further
by appointment of David Moyes as the new manager of the club. He once had
issues with Moyes which ended in court and Rooney had to pay some huge amount afterwards.
Perhaps seeing him day to day will remind him of bad memories.
Sir Alex Ferguson had declare
that the club will not sell him.NSM believes it may be a decision that will not
benefit the club in the long run. It is profitable to sell a player who longer
has interest in the club than continue to pay him wages for sitting on the bench.
Consciously or unconsciously, the player will never be at his best for the club.
It could be a decision that will likely hunt the new coach and the fans if
reason does not prevail now.
Where will he go? NSM is not sure
but one thing is sure he is likely to stay close to home. In the last few years
it is difficult to see an English player who is active for club and country to
feature outside of the UK. The bulk of England national team players play at home.
This is a big factor if Rooney still want to play for England. It is not
impossible for him to play outside England; it will be a decision that will not
come easy.
