Since
Patrick Sawyer made that infamous visit to Nigeria in July this year
Ebola had been a serious national issue.The Liberian brought the plague
to this nation when on an ECOWAS mission in Nigeria.At the last count, 6
people have lost their lives due to Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
Unfortunately Sawyer was under surveillance in Liberia before he escaped
and caught a flight coming to this country.The man immediately
collapsed on getting to Nigeria and had to be rushed to First
Consultants hospital where he infected doctors and nurses in the
hospital.He even wanted to escape from the hospital but for the bravery
of doctors like Adadevoh Ameyo who informed the Lagos state health
ministry.The rest is history.
The
efforts of Lagos State governments during this EVD challenge has been
commendable.The Federal health ministry also woke up to their
responsibility at containing the spread of the virus.The Rivers state
health ministry too had been working hard to contain the spread since
the EVD surfaced in the state.The infection in the state too was traced
to Patrick Sawyer who was regarded as the index case.
