SCOTLAND STAYS WITH UNITED KINGDOM

Jubilation in Scotland as citizens made a land mark decision in a referendum to remain as part of the United Kingdom. The electorates voted (NO) against move for independence by 54% while those who voted (YES) were 46% of the total vote cast.

The turnout of voters was large in a referendum that many believed the outcome will define the fate of the four-member Kingdom. The United Kingdom is made up of England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

The result of the election meant the union is still intact with all its members. The NO citizens had their way and the citizens are delighted but the vote cast of 46% shows that there are growing interests for an independent Scotland which could spill to other member countries. These voters and groups cannot be ignored. However the beauty of the decision is the acceptance of voice of the Scottish people by all. Scottish National Party First Minister, Alex Salmond admitted his loss in an attempt to lead independent Scotland and urged his supporters and all Scots to accept the verdict at the polls as true representation of desire of the nation.

All hope for better treatment from those who wanted freedom from the union is not lost. Prime Minister David Cameron though was happy for not losing a member nation but assured that going forward justice demand that more powers will be devolved to constituent member nations of the United Kingdom.
